Fostering Connections with Students: How Faculty Can Use Bluepulse to Collect Anonymous Two-Way Feedback

Do you want to know more about your students’ experience of learning in your course while you still have time to adjust? Have you ever posed a clicker question and wished you could reach out to some respondents directly? This interactive session is designed to demonstrate the capabilities and potential of Bluepulse by Explorance, a new online feedback system that allows students to answer instructor questions anonymously, as well as pose questions of their own, creating a true two-way conversation.

As research has shown, many students, particularly in large lecture classes, do not always feel comfortable answering questions in class or posing questions to their instructors. In this session, Northwestern faculty from several disciplines and class types will share how they used Bluepulse in their courses as part of a small pilot being conducted by the Searle Center for Advancing Learning & Teaching, in collaboration with Information Technology and the Office of the Registrar. Session participants will also be able to experience how the tool works for themselves, creating questions to elicit information about their students’ learning, as well as thinking through how they might improve class activities and instruction.
